Yarael Poof - Page 2

Yarael Poof was also called to service almost a decade later, when a madman threatened to destroy the very planet of Coruscant, killing billions of people. General Ashaar Khorda, an Annoo-Dat radical from the planet of the same name, acquired through the help of bounty hunters Jango Fett and Zam Wessell, an object with enough power to destroy a planet. Khorda's grievances with the Republic were so deep, that he was willing to sacrifice himself if it meant he could destroy it.

Planning to take the device into the heart of Coruscant and activate it, Khorda hoped to destroy Coruscant and subsequently the Republic. Through the use of informants, the Jedi Council was able to get sketchy information about Khorda and his plans, but his exact target was unknown to the Jedi. The Council had narrowed it down to three planets: Alderaan, Corellia, and Coruscant. It was clear that Jedi were needed on each planet to confront Khorda, should he appear on either one. Jedi Master Oppo Rancisis volunteered to guard Corellia, and Master Eeth Koth Alderaan.

Barring objections, Jedi Master Mace Windu offered to guard Coruscant, but Poof felt that his mental abilities could be useful in such a situation, and volunteered himself to guard Coruscant. With everything agreed, the Jedi Masters left for their respective missions. Meanwhile, the bounty hunters who were hired by Khorda, realizing what they had put into the madman Khorda's hands were off to search for him, a mission different from Master Poof's, but with the same objective.

Zam Wessell discovered that the artifact was created by a dying race of people from an obscure planet, a race of people inherently attuned to the Force. Because of their Force affinity, the natives of the planet Seylott imbued in the artifact the power of the Force, and called it the Infant of Shaa after a deity. On Seylott in its altar, the object proved no threat. However, whenever it was taken away from its home planet, it could be triggered to cause a disturbance in the Force with the power to obliterate a world. Appealing to Fett's sense of right and wrong, Zam convinced him that Khorda needed to be stopped, and thus set out to find him.
